A Summer Way to Give…

It took awhile, but summer is finally heating up, and we all know what that means… Vacations, travel, and special events to share with family and friends.  At Acres of Hope, summer brings new hope and opportunity for our families.  It also brings a decline in revenue.

We have the most amazing families living onsite who are making a new life for themselves.  Andrea and Billy, pictured here, entered Acres of Hope in March of this year, and have made huge strides by redefining their value as family.  Your support allows them the ability to continue in their growth.

This summer, we'd like to ask that you consider giving the equivalent of several Triple Lattes or a trip for a quick burger as an extra gift to Acres of Hope.  One bed for the night at Acres is rated by a federal grant as being worth $12.50.  Would you consider sacrificing a couple things to provide  one good night's sleep for one person?  You need only to CLICK HERE to donate.  Thank you for your support!

Only Thirteen, and a Heart for our Families…

Claire Wright, 2010 Jr. Miss California International, has been an ongoing supporter of Acres of Hope, choosing our organization as her platform when she decided to enter the Jr. Miss pageant.   Claire has developed wonderful relationships with the families at Acres of Hope, and is moved with compassion for our children…with all they've endured in their young lives.  Claire understands the necessity of living a life for God and finding strength in Him, and models that by her fun loving manner and gentle kindness.
Claire continues to support Acres through her involvement in other pageants.  She is competing for Junior Miss Celebrity USA today and tomorrow at the Red Lion Inn, Sacramento, retaining Acres of Hope as her platform.

Claire recently won the Kohl's Kids Who Care local and regional competition and is one of 200 competing for the National Scholarship.  If she wins, Kohl's will donate funds to Acres on her behalf.  Acres of Hope is blessed to have such a friend as Claire.

Come Celebrate our Graduate!

Sarah and her two adorable daughters, Breanna and Alyssa are officially graduating from Acres of Hope this month! Sarah came to Acres over a year ago without custody of her daughters and struggling with physical, emotional and spiritual health.  She has now completed all the program requirements, is enrolled full time at Sierra Community College, has just rented a cute little cottage, and is on her way to a new way of life!

Sarah’s greatest success, by far, is her deep reliance and faith in God.  She was given the word ‘Courage’ as a personal goal when she came into the program, because she had so little self-worth and struggled with standing up for herself. The staff at Acres is in complete agreement that Sarah has more than fulfilled her ‘word’ and is a testimony to how a one’s life can be changed when truly surrendered to God.

Please show your support and join us at Acres of Hope on Saturday,  June 26th from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. to share in the celebration!  Sarah has basic needs for her new home and is registered at Target under the name Sarah Nichols, Graduation. The direct link to her list is here.

3rd Annual Poker Run

A HUGE thank you to George Boyse of Bayside Adventure Sports, who organized and facilitated the 3rd annual Poker Run for Acres of Hope! Nearly 30 riders participated in the event.  We appreciate Roseville Yamaha's  great hospitality by providing beverages and baked goods at the starting point.  After the ride through the gorgeous Sierra Foothills, the riders came to Acres of Hope and were treated to delicious burgers and dogs, barbecued by the Meadow Vista Lions Club!  What a day it was!  Such a sense of camaraderie and fun as the moms and kids at Acres had a chance to meet some new friends.  Thank you to all who participated!

A 100 Mile Ride Benefits Acres of Hope

Thank you to the Sacramento Wheelmen, who hosted the Sierra Century Bike Ride on June 5!  This 100 mile ride involved a first time 'give back' opportunity for the riders. Acres of Hope was chosen as the recipient of a raffle at the end of the ride, which included a LaPierre Bicycle, donated by Patriot Bicycles.

Sierra Reach Ministries was one of the rest stops for the racers, and several of our Acres of Hope moms served the bikers as they took a short break.

Acres of Hope received a check for $2,500 for this event and developed some great friends along the way.  A special thank you to Curt and Ginny Taylor, for choosing Acres of Hope as the recipient,   (and our friends Art and Carol who really know how to handle a rest stop! :)

BAGC Shoot for Funds

BAGC is an awesome trap shooting club for women, and when Acres was contacted months ago to be the recipient of the benefits of a Trap Shoot, we just didn't realize what a benefit it would be, financially as well as developing new relationships.  We are so blessed by the kindness of women in our community as all the proceeds of the tournament benefited Acres of Hope.  Thank you and hope to see you all up at Acres of Hope soon…

ReNew Boutique, an upscale fundraising venue for Acres of Hope, has been brilliantly and successfully managed over the past sixteen months by Cecilia Gandre, pictured left, who has been instrumental in developing store policies, recruiting and maintaining volunteers and nearly every thing else.  Cecilia has resigned from the management position with the intent of continuing in her role as Volunteer Coordinator and special projects.

(just step onsite…you’ll sense it immediately). Her vision and enthusiasm for the growth of the ministry at ReNew is exciting as she uses her giftedness to create an environment that will draw the community together, while increasing monthly support for Acres of Hope.  Welcome Renee!

Your Smile for Life will benefit Acres Families

Fountains Dental Excellence at the Fountains is participating in a discounted teeth whitening ($299 vs. about $500) 100% of the cost is split between two charities, Acres of Hope and Smiles for Life Foundation.  If just 100 people participate in the whitening program, the  dentists have committed a smile makeover for one of our moms at Acres of Hope and Sarah Nichols (second from left), who will be graduating in June, has been chosen as the recipient! Call Fountains Dental Excellence at 916-780-3000 or visit them at www.fountainsdentist.com to book your appointment.  Your support can raise funds for our families and you’ll leave with a whiter, brighter smile!

Getting to Know Us….

One of the best ways know all about us is by coming onsite, hearing about the program and meeting our families.  For the summer months, June, July and August, we will be hosting small groups at convenient times for you, when pre-scheduled.  If your group would like to visit Acres of Hope, hear our vision and purpose and meet our families, please contact christine@acresofhopeonline.org.

We’re Going GREEN!

Two wonderful volunteers, Wendell Witt, and Lawrence Buren, one of our board members, doubled the size of our vegetable garden at Acres of Hope!  Once the rains subside and we see a little more sun, our families are looking forward to being involved with the harvest.  At Acres of Hope, it really IS all about the Harvest.  A life once buried and hard, blooms and becomes fruitful.  We’re so grateful for our many, many volunteers and donors that invest their time and prayerful and financial support to help with the growth and harvest of our families.

Nothing says 'thank you' quite as sweetly as a child. Your support of Acres of Hope provides our adorable children with an opportunity to live in a drug and alcohol free environment, away from violence and harm's way.

Jesse came into our program with significant anger issues just over the age of three…biting, kicking and screaming.  As his mom dove into the program to find out who she is and implemented healthy patterns for her own life, she has been able to build into Jesse's life…establishing firm and loving boundaries, and excellent parenting skills…something Jesse had never experienced.  Today, Jesse is enrolled in preschool and will start kindergarten next fall.  He loves to help with household tasks, is polite and funny and we see great things in store for his future.  Thank you for making a tangible difference in little Jesse's life, and all the lives of our kids at Acres of Hope!

East Valley Women's Group Visits Acres of Hope

A women's group from East Valley Church blessed our Acres families with a wonderful brunch, Easter card making and great interaction with moms and kids alike.  Cindy Giesen, organizer of the event, attended an Open House a few months ago and felt a deep call to Acres.  Her enthusiasm sparked  interest in the women's group she is involved with at East Valley, and this event blossomed as a result.  A true camaraderie between all the women was developed and we look forward to future events with this remarkable group of women.

If your small group is interested in being involved with our families, please contact us at info@acresofhopeonline.org.
